TEAM TRIP 2010 This year New Heights is gearing up to take another team to Chiang Mai Thailand for 2 weeks. This will be the 7th year that New Heights have taken teams. Our big goal is to help in sponsoring our children's home as they have decided to move locations. We also are going with an openness to be available to whatever project comes our way. Please pray along with our community: for the kids and their futures, for wisdom to know how to participate, for finances to continue as they have, and for the leadership in Thailand that gives so much of their time and energy to people in need. Mai Mission...from Mission to Chiang Mai The Story BBF (Ban Berk Faa) is the name of a small village near Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand discovered in August of 2004 by group of 12 young people from the Fraser Valley area of British Columbia while on a two week missions’ trip. At BBF there were 33 children who were suffering in terribly deprived conditions. The children, many of whom were orphans or abandoned by parents, were from four Lahu villages located 200 km north of Chiang Mai. Amazingly, the kids were all being cared for and transported to school by mainly one family, Pradit and his wife Nassi. For six days the Canadian Team along side the children worked countless hours installing new latrines, a water purification system, a new kitchen complete with a refrigerator and made many repairs. It was an exciting experience for the Team but the best was yet to come. Vision How do you fall in love with a group of kids, experience their poverty first hand , and then say goodbye and return to the prosperity of Canadian life knowing that their struggle for food, shelter and education will continue? The 2004 Team felt they had to do something. The night before returning home we met and pledged all of our remaining funds to help make sure BBF had enough food for a month. Miraculously thanks to the continued giving of a few of the Team members and a few other precious souls, BBF has had funds for food, transportation, rent and schooling ever since! Furthermore the relationships with the Lahu kids has continued. In August of 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 other Canadian teams returned and continued to do work, play soccer, sing and even brought a trampoline, a truck and a small house! Another group of people are planning to travel to BBF again this year. The objective of all our efforts is to strengthen the faith or our young Lahu friends at BBF, empower them to overcome their current cycle of poverty and ultimately enable them to impact their ethnic communities both in Chiang Mai and back in their mountain villages. THIS YEAR A TEAM OF 15 PEOPLE WILL BE TRAVELLING FROM MISSION ON AUG 18-Sept 2. PLEASE PRAY FOR A PRODUCTIVE TRIP.
